Interview
In order to understand the issues with an electronic pipette, I interviewed a medical researcher. He has been working in a lab setting for over 20 years.
The Tool
The electronic pipette measures a volume of liquid and dispenses it at a selected volume in a selected number of test tubes. Each one has a volume range in microliters.
The problems
The screen navigation buttons are not intuitive. The researcher did not even know what one of them did.
The pipette is not compatible with the standard disposable tips used to dispense the liquid.
The dial at the top of the pipette for volume amount is imprecise and tedious to adjust.
